A place to hide away. A place to let go of the stress that the city sometimes plagues us with. A place to renew ones self and feel recharged.Where is this place you wonder? This magical place is my favorite oasis in Palm Springs. It is a boutique, exclusive , paradise hotel called Korakia Pensione. I have been escaping from Los Angeles city life to this uplifting location since 2007. At only a little less then a 2 hour drive from LA; Korakia makes me feel as though I have traveled to another country perhaps another world, but it is actually just a blink of an eye away from home. For a city girl such as myself, being somewhere where the only rule is to be as quiet as possible so that all guests can relax, IS actual bliss. City life is loud and busy; where as Korakia is peaceful & mellow. There are no children or pets allowed at Korakia as well as no TV in the rooms or anywhere on the property, so that guests can truly feel the comfort of disconnecting from life & connecting to inner peace and relaxation. The establishment was created in the 1924, by Scottish painter Gordon Coutts, who was nostalgic for his inspirational years spent in Tangiers that he decided to replicate them in Palm Springs. And oh boy , did he do a great job of not only transporting us there, but also inspiring anyone who visits Korakia as well. He had such an amazing artistic community throughout the time he lived on the property. It is said that even Churchill stayed in the Artist Suite back in the days (which I LOVE not only for its large slanted windows & it's in room telescope, but also for its romantic 4 post bed) and made many paintings there. Included in this magic is another section across the street from main area of Korakia called the Mediterranean Villa. This is where I usually stay. There are houses such as the Orchard House that dates back to 1918, and my favorite the Nash House; which if I could I would literally live there for a month or more just to regroup my thoughts, write, rest, and find myself all over again. ThisBlondeBrunette LOVES vintage, historical culture, and eras such as the 1920s 1930s. Perhaps that is why I love such analog items as record players and rotary phones. Well, this place has such a sense for vintage nostalgia. All of the 28 suites (total from both properties) have record players w/ classic records. They play classic films including black and whites or even some 80s / 90s classics like Sabrina, on a projector on the Mediterranean Villa patio where you can lay under the white lights and pillows to cuddle up with your partner or eat a meal that you cooked or ordered during your film. Once you are done there you can cuddle up by either your own fireplace (depending on wether you have a suite with fireplace as some do) or the patios various fire pits. My love and I decided to roast s'mores on the fireplace while cuddling and we enjoyed being under the clear skies stars. After a good meal and a good film perhaps you can enjoy a soothing bath in your own stone bath. Each suite has its own beautiful bathroom but I have to say once again my favorites were those on the Mediterranean side. This time we stayed in the Mykonos Suite, which has a huge stone bath, which the staff covered with tea light candles and we put lavender oil and salts in for a wonderfully relaxing bath for two. The Orchard house has a HUGE copper bath, and the Nash house has a nice stone bath as well as a private outdoor stone shower. This entire property is DEFINITELY not just relaxing, but built for romance. Many people even book there weddings here. My love and I will definitely make this a tradition to come spend at least once a year at Korakia, esp. until we have tried every suite they have. Not to mention riding around on their blacked out beach bikes, after having the most delicious french toast (which is part of their complimentary breakfast which you can have delivered to your suite or in their beautiful outdoor patio) is extra fun to do around the city or to go pick up snacks and drinks from the near by grocery store in. Followed by dipping into one of their 2 salt water pools (depending on which side of the property you are staying in). Or for the lucky few your own private small pool in your Orchard House patio. And finally but not least my favorite bocce ball, followed by laying in one of the outdoor day beds, to either nap, read, cuddle or simply enjoy the many mesmerizing mountain or sky views as the evening draws near and they light up the candles and fire pits through out both properties; once again transporting you to an enchanting place made of dreams & fairy tale settings. After a quick dip in the warm salt water pool under the stars, you relax either alone with your creative or quite thoughts; or if you are with a loved one you let the romance continue with your significant other. I chose this time around to spend 3 days full of relaxation and romance;which included rose peddles on the bed, which the sweet onsite staff helped me with (including other surprises) followed by morning in suite couples massages.
